Part of the Ruby Oliver Film Festival.
Amusing throughout, but I couldn't help but feel annoyed at Katherine Hepburn's character. Full of lots of zany hijinks that make this a good family-friendly film. I think my favorite line came from Aunt Elizabeth: "I've always wanted a leopard!"*
Cost: free from library
Where watched: at home.

*Really? Times sure have changed.
Oh how I adore Kate. Was she super annoying in this one? I have only seen bits and pieces, so I don;t know.
ReplyDeleteShe was fun in that zany way that makes you glad she won't be your life partner. I was reading that Howard Hawks felt like he failed with this movie because there were too many zany characters and there wasn't anyone to anchor the plot. I kind of agree.
ReplyDeleteI saw this ages ago and didn't really like it (definitely too zany for me), but there's one scene where Cary Grant opens the front door wearing a lady's bathrobe and I don't remember what the person on the other side asks him, but Grant says, "No, I just turned gay all of a sudden!" and leaps in the air and I laughed myself silly. I must have rewound and played it back at least five times.
ReplyDeleteTrivia reading has informed me that this is considered the first use of the term "gay" to mean "homosexual" and not "happy" in film. And it was improvised by Grant. I too chuckled at that line.
