I think it is likely that it did come from that tree. Different trees grow their roots in different patterns. Some grow mostly horizontal and shallow roots (20-30 feet and more). Others grow more vertical root systems. Soil compaction and water levels affect root growth as well.
This seems to be the nearest tree. It can't have grown from there, could it?
